The iPhone 7 Doesn’t Look Like a Boring Upgrade After All

We’re just a few days from the launch of the iPhone 7, and more exciting details about the anticipated device has leaked already. Over the past few months, leaks and rumors intensified, giving us more ideas about what to expect. Almost everyone already knows what the final design looks like now, but the internals have remained pretty sketchy… until now.
KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo has always been one of the most reliable sources when it comes to predicting yet-to-be-released Apple devices, and he has made some very interesting revelations on the iPhone 7 that’s going to be launched next week.

Sharper display

A report he issued to clients which 9to5Mac got hold of reveals that Apple will follow the same display size pattern on iPhone 6 models. The iPhone 7 is expected to come with a 4.7-inch screen while the bigger iPhone 7 Plus will have a 5.5-inch display. Apple is taking the display technology on the iPad Pro to improve quality of the iPhone 7 display, making images taken with the all new camera more vivid.
Improved camera

This is definitely one of the things a lot of us are looking forward to. The report claims that Apple is putting a dual-12MP camera on the iPhone 7 Plus –one is a wide-angle camera and the other is a telephoto lens. This will allow true optical zoom, adjusting DoF and features like “light field camera applications” are expected. The smaller iPhone 7 will come with just one camera but it’s also getting some upgrades. This is expected to be a larger aperture and possibly OIS.

Faster A10 chip

The A9 chip on the iPhone 6s currently puts it in the league of top ten fastest smartphones in the world , but this report reveals that the iPhone 7 will sport an even faster A10 chip clocked at 2.4GHz. The A9 chip is clocked at only 1.8GHz and this dramatic increase looks interesting. It is also reported that the A10 chip is built using TSMC’s ten-nanometer FinFET process technology.

Storage & RAM

It’s a good thing that Apple is finally killing the 16GB storage option. The iPhone 7 will only come in these storage options: 32GB, 128GB and 256GB. This means that apart from the 16GB storage option that’s being killed off, the 64GB storage option too will disappear. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 retains the 2GB RAM on the iPhone 6s, but the bigger model is getting an upgrade. Apple is fitting a 3GB random access memory on the iPhone 7 Plus.

Other details

As reported by 9to5Mac, it has already been confirmed that the iPhone 7 will not have the 3.5mm headphone jack.

This will be replaced by wireless headphones or wired earphones that work with the Lightning port. Apple will reportedly ship a Lightning-based wired earpods with each iPhone 7 purchase.

The iPhone 7 is expected to come with IPX7 waterproof rating and improved sensors. Apple will announce the device on September 7.
